When I started dreaming about DPC in 2019 I soaked in EVERYTHING I could about DPC as many of us who have chosen to join in along the DPC path have!

One of my favorite moments was a ridiculously out of the way trip from Arnold, CA to the Bay Area to "pick up a Thule jogging stroller off of Craig's List." In all truthfulness, I did not mind the 5 hour round trip journey cause all I did was listen to DPC-centric YouTube videos and Dr. Landon Roussel's The DPC Podcast the ENTIRE TIME.

When I started the My DPC Story podcast, it was a saving grace for me personally and professionally. Many of you who might be reading this might already know that I was 28 weeks pregnant with our second child and I had been handed a "sign our RVU letter or consider yourself terminated letter" from my employer. To get me through this place where I had never been since I was 16 - under the threat of forced joblessness - I was driven to hear more and more stories and there weren't enough out there, thus the birth of the pod; I was determined to use what I experienced in my situation to help other physicians like me (or soon to be like I was) know there was another option, a red pill that looked after both patients and those who were trained to care for them. As I heard more and more stories, listened to the recordings as I edited each episode in detail, I continued to fall in love with this new world of physician autonomy and having the time to be creative and connect with others was icing on the cake.

Fast forward to 2021 when I opened the doors to my own practice, Big Trees MD, a DPC in my small town of approximately 4000 full-timers - Arnold, CA.

Since I opened my doors and celebrated my FIRST year in business, I have learned by the seat of my pants. Yet, I am scrappy and I grew up in the neighborhood of South Sacramento and I will take a DIY project any day. So, in this second year of business I am able to look back on my journey and see what pulled me through past year one and what I need to clean up on going forward!
